To fix my clients’ issues with retention, we actually had to go upstream and start with acquisition
  • Editing and expanding the product assortment, so customers had a compelling reason to make a second purchase. 
  • Optimizing bundles and first purchase promotions to ward off low-value customers and attract those who were primed to spend more. 
  • Layering in Zero Party Data to provide a crystal-clear picture of the brand’s highest value customer segments, so we could scale into them.

Does this mean that email and SMS marketing are irrelevant? Of course not!

But it does mean that successful brands use email and SMS strategically–sending different messages to brand-new customers with one lifetime order vs loyalists with 10 lifetime orders.

After seeing these same issues pop up again and again–even for brands that are household names–I started to wonder why retention is so misunderstood.
